4-H is boys and girls getting together to learn new things, meet new friends, and have fun. 4-H clubs and community-based programs provide youth development programs to young people grades K-13 (first year out of high school). 4-H programs are available in urban, suburban, and rural communities.

4-H is a place where young people have many opportunities to build confidence, learn responsibility, and develop skills that will last them a lifetime. It’s a place where youth make friends and share interests, ranging from building robots to raising rabbits, from designing web pages to landscape design. It’s a place where youth work together to make a positive difference in their community and adult volunteers make a powerful difference in the lives of young people.

Put your head, heart, hands, and health together and there’s no telling how far you can go!

Join 4-H

Join, volunteer, or start a 4-H club in Atlantic County today!

Participating in 4-H Clubs is a fun way to make friends while learning about your community and chosen project area. As a 4-H member or volunteer, you can be proud to know that you are involved in a program that focuses on 'learning by doing.'

The four H's of 4-H stand for 'head, heart, hands and health'-  a representation of the character-building core values of independence, belonging, mastery and generosity. Through caring adult volunteers, supportive 4-H staff, land-grant (Rutgers) university curriculum, and fun and informative events, we are able to encourage youth to 'make the best better' within themselves, their clubs, their communities and beyond.

You can join a 4-H club kindergarten up through the first year out of high school where you can do all kinds of fun activities, like build a rocket, design clothes, learn about computers, help save the environment.

You name it, you can do it in 4-H. Better yet, you can get a lot of help from adult volunteers. They are mentors who can teach you and help you learn.

We strongly recommend you attend one or two meetings before registering! (The leader of the club needs to confirm all members before becoming official members – this is easier for them to do if they have met you!)

If you don't find a club that fits your style and are interested in 4-H, don't worry! Atlantic County 4-H Staff will work with you to find a club or to start a new one if necessary.

Policy of Inclusion

4-H Youth Development programs are offered to all youth, kindergarten through grade 13, without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or handicap, on an age appropriate basis.

Current Clubs

Clubs are the foundation of 4-H. A 4-H club is a group of five or more young people guided by one or more adults. A club can be any size--from a small group from the same neighborhood to a large group of youth from within the county.

A 4-H club has a planned program that is ongoing throughout all or most of the year, and can meet in any location, but most in Atlantic County meet at the 4-H Center in South Egg Harbor. 4-H clubs are organized and supported to provide community-based, positive, structured learning opportunities for youth during their developmental years. Clubs are youth-driven with adult leaders offering guidance and support. Typically, a club's members elect officers, form committees, and plan the club’s yearly activities.

Following the Rutgers Working with Minors Protection Policy and the NJ 4-H Volunteer Placement Policy, 4-H ensures that volunteers provide a safe environment – both physically and emotionally – with opportunities for members to learn new skills and knowledge, to practice these skills, and learn practical applications for their project work and everyday lives. This includes a screening process and one-on-one training by 4-H staff.

All youth are different, and so are 4-H clubs! The goals and structures of 4-H clubs vary according to the needs of the members they serve. Some clubs offer one project topic that all members experience together at the club meetings. Others offer a selection of projects.
